Sloggin is an odd song. The instrumental was made by resampling and slowing my debut single “Noggin” …hence the name and subject matter. More than that, if you’ve listened to it I’m sure you noticed that the first verse is just repeated and used as the second verse. These were conscious decisions.
I wanted to make a song that felt like a thought loop. Those times where I don’t even realize I’m dwelling on a certain imaginary situation, past interaction, or future task. And with each passing loop on these thoughts, they become more and more intense. I stress more about whatever it is, or grow more excited depending on the day. While I eagerly waited for my girlfriend to come back from Paris this summer, I had all too many days trapped in these thought loops. Sliding into this tumbling cadence helped me feel better when I needed it.
Keeping both verses the same lyrically plays into the loop theme but I also wanted to make it as easy as possible for listeners to jump in.
“Thresh with the hook, they ain’t seen that ish coming”
Not just a nod to League of Legends, this line is saying: Yeah it is the same. This verse is like a hook. Repeated. And guess what? It’s the whole song.
I feel like we all get caught up in these thought loops all too often without even realizing it. If you're like me, these thought loops result in mental spirals...Slog through it.
Ride the wave. Vibe. Chill. Whatever you want to call it, I hope you can put this track on repeat, and escape for a bit.
